Animation of ‘Vise’ || Using Creo Mechanism

Animation-of-Vise--Using-Creo-Mechanism

This PTC Creo 3.0 tutorial will show how to animate the assembly of ‘Vise’ by using the ‘Mechanism’ application of the software. This application is used to move and analyze the motion of a Mechanism.

The Assembly of ‘Vise’ model has three sub-assemblies. To know how to create the subassemblies and it’s components watch a previous tutorial, discussed in the following blog posts.

Vise || Creo Parametric Tutorial || (Volume-1)

Vise || Creo Parametric Tutorial || (Volume-2)

First, we will place the subassembly 1 in the main assembly and assemble it at the default location. Next subassembly 3 will be placed and a pre-defined constraint set ‘Cylinder’ will be applied which provides two-axis joint, Translation and Rotation. Finally, subassembly 2 will be put in the assembly and some component references will be applied. Later we will add two Servo Motors over both axes of ‘Cylinder’ constraint set to run the whole mechanism.

The Pitch used in creating the threads over the components of Vise model is 0.125 (1/8) inch. That is why one servo motor will run at a velocity of 360°/second that will provide rotating motion and second servo motor will run at a velocity of 0.125 inches/second which will provide translation motion. When we run the Dynamic Analysis for 8 seconds the jaws of vise will open the gap between them will be 1 inch.

By watching this tutorial viewers will observe as well as learn the following tools/commands of the software:--

  1. Placing components in the assembly.
  2. Applying component references to fully constrained components
  3. Using pre-defined constraint set which are used for creating mechanism.
  4. Using Creo Mechanism Application.
  5. Inserting Servo Motor.
  6. Dynamic Analysis of Mechanism.
  7. Using Playback command which is used to replay the previously run analysis.

To understand the video easily, focus over places where we have paused our mouse. This is done so as the viewers can easily read the tooltips generated by the software and understand what is being done and why.
