SolidWorks Surface Modelling 2017 Tutorial || Design a Steel Spoon

Hello Viewers, Today we will Design a model 'Steel Spoon' with Surface Features in SolidWorks. This video is going to be very important for you because today I will tell you how you can easily make this model with the help of surface tools like "Boundary Surface", "Lofted Surface" and at last, all the surfaces will be converted into a single surface by using the "Knit Surface" command after creating this we will give the Thickness by using the Thicken tool. I hope you will like this tutorial.

SolidWorks Basic Tutorial || Surfaces

YouTube-Icon

This tutorial covers the basics of surface modelling concepts in ‘SolidWorks’ and provides information about additional detailed learning resources.

Transcription of Video
................................................................................

This ‘SolidWorks Tutorial’ demonstrates how to utilize surface modelling capabilities of the software. Creating models will surfaces is convenient and the result of subsequent features to be created, is easy to guess.

Many a time you will find, that the same type of work can be done with the help of solid modelling tools also, but surface modelling has its own importance and benefits, particularly in case of complex shapes.

In this example two closed sketch profiles are visible, that were drawn previously on two different ‘Planes’.

Now we will see how to use ‘Lofted Surface Tool’ along with ‘Filled Surface Tool’ to create a closed surface body.

Later we will see how to join and convert the surface bodies into a solid body by using ‘Knit Surface Tool’.

So let us start the tutorial.

Note:-

The video has a little caption assistance, but I have given sufficient amount of pause over the tool and their tip, so that they can be read easily. In addition this, annotations are also applied over important places…. so please focus on them to understand what is being done and how….

  1. Switch to Surface Command Manager Tab.
  2. Next, with these two closed sketch profiles, create a surface body, using ‘Lofted Surface’ tool.
  3. Open the visibility of consumed sketch profiles, so that they can be reused.
  4. Activate ‘Filled Surface’ Tool and create two more surface bodies using these closed sketch profiles.
  5. Expand this node in the ‘FeatureManager Design Tree’, here we can see, the software indicates us, that we created three surface bodies.
  6. Activate Knit Surface tool to combine and convert these surface bodies into solid body.
  7. Now check the ‘FeatureManager Design Tree’ is indicates a solid body.
  8. Change the colour of the model as per your wish.
  9. On a solid body, we can apply solid modelling features like Fillet, Shell etc., see how…
  10. Now activate ‘Section View’ to examine the finished component.
  11. Our model is complete, see how it would look like, after applying some setting related to lightning and colours which is called rendering.

Serial No. 11

Tray (SolidWorks 2014 Tutorial)

In this exercise, a Tray is to be created by using surface features in SolidWorks. First of all, basic sketches would be created and later Planer Surface, Lofted Surface and Knit Surface Tools would be utilized to complete the model. At the end, with the help of Thicken Tool surface model would be converted into a solid model.
