For the calculation procedure, go through the following steps.
Let us consider a hollow rectangular mild steel tube or pipe of dimension 38.1mm × 38.1mm.× 1.5875mm.
(1.5” x 1.5” x 0.0625”) As shown in fig. below. Let us calculate the weight of the pipe having a 6-meter length.
Hollow Square steel section. |
Here, thickness T = 1.5875mm. breadth B = 38.1mm, depth D = 38.1mm., and length L =6m.
Hollow Square Stainless Steel tube. |
First, we will calculate the sectional area in two parts, the orange-colored part area as A1, and green colored part area as A2.
Method: 1
First, we will calculate the total area inclusive of the hollow part, and then we will deduct the inner hollow portion (shown in green color) of the pipe.
Area a1 =[ B × D]
= [38.1 mm. × 38.1 mm.] = 1451.61 square mm.
a1 = 0.001452 sq meter.
Area a2 = [{ B - (2T)} × { D - ( 2T)}]
= [{ 38.1 -( 2 × 1.5875)} × { 38.1 - (2 × 1.5875)}]
= [ 34.925 mm.× 34.925 mm.] = 1219.755625 square mm.
( i.e. inner green hollow part )
a2 = 0.001219756 sq meter.
Now, the total sectional area
A = [a1 – a2]
= [0.001452 — 0.001219756] sq meter.
A = 0.000232244 square meter.
Note: We got the same area (A ) as calculated before.
Volume = [area × length]
= [0.000232244 ×6]
V = 0.001393464 cubic meter.
So, the weight of the hollow square Stainless Steel 316 pipe of length 6 meters & Thickness Gauge 16.
= [volume × density]
= [0.001393464 × 7980]
= 11.1198 kg.

For the calculation procedure, go through the following steps.
Let us consider a hollow rectangular mild steel tube or pipe of dimension 38.1mm × 38.1mm.× 1.27mm.
(1.5” x 1.5” x 0.05”) As shown in fig. below. Let us calculate the weight of the pipe having a 6-meter length.

Here, thickness T = 1.27 mm. breadth B = 38.1 mm, depth D = 38.1 mm., and length L =6 m.

= [ 35.56 mm.× 35.56 mm.] = 1264.5136 square mm.
( i.e. inner green hollow part )
a2 = 0.0012645 sq meter.
Now, the total sectional area
A = [a1 – a2]
= [0.001452 — 0.0012645] sq meter.
A = 0.0001875 square meter.
Note: We got the same area (A ) as calculated before.
Volume = [area × length]
= [0.0001875 ×6]
V = 0.001125 cubic meter.
So, the weight of the hollow square Stainless Steel 316 pipe of length 6 meters & Thickness Gauge 18.
= [volume × density]
= [0.001125 × 7980]
= 8.9775 kg.

For the calculation procedure, go through the following steps.
Let us consider a hollow rectangular mild steel tube or pipe of dimension 12.7mm × 25.4mm.× 1.5875mm.
(0.5” x 1” x 0.0625”) As shown in fig. below. Let us calculate the weight of the pipe having a 6-meter length.

Area a1 =[ B × D]
= [12.7 mm. × 25.4 mm.] = 322.58 square mm.
a1 = 0.000323 sq meter.
Area a2 = [{ B - (2T)} × { D - ( 2T)}]
= [{ 12.7 -( 2 × 1.5875)} × { 25.4 - (2 × 1.5875)}]
= [ 9.525 mm.× 22.225 mm.] = 211.693125 square mm.
( i.e. inner green hollow part )
a2 = 0.00021169 sq meter.
Now, the total sectional area
A = [a1 – a2]
= [0.000323 — 0.00021169] sq meter.
A = 0.00011131 square meter.
Note: We got the same area (A ) as calculated before.
Volume = [area × length]
= [0.00011131 ×6]
V = 0.00066786 cubic meter.
So, the weight of the hollow rectangular Stainless Steel 316 pipe of length 6 meters & Thickness Gauge 16.
= [volume × density]
= [0.00066786 × 7980]
= 5.3295228 kg.

( i.e. inner green hollow part )

= 4.35708 kg.
